Banbury Luncheon.
The Banbury Luncheon will be held this year on Saturday March 23rd.

The meal will be about £25 each plus wine (etc..) at the usual venue in Banbury. It's an excellent way of joining with the gentlemen to kick-start 2014!

2013 Lampeter Returners, May 4th.
The Returners will be on Saturday May 4th. with an outing, possibly to the beach, followed by a Returners Meal at 'Y Talbot, Tregaron.

Club Funds!.
The subscriptions to the Returning Members has not been updated for some time, and very few old Clubs have a standing order. 16 Returners mandate - please complete and send off to your bank or use online banking to set up the payment. Suggest £10-15 per annum as a good starting point! Email to the treasurer once you have sent your form off so we can check.
Just to complete the attack on your wallets before Christmas I've also uploaded the Lampeter Society mandate - slightly different, send this one off to Coll (address on the mandate) and write your email address on the form.

Information from old Club Mr. Somers
Hi everybody - just to let you know that after many years I am returning to the stage with an original one man show premiering in London's SOLO FESTIVAL.
The show JEROME is based on the life and work of Jerome K Jerome with a good helping of extracts from Three Men In A Boat/On The Bummel etc.
It should be fun and we can always meet for a drink after.
It's 55 mins long, runs from the 23rd - 27th July at The Lord Stanley in Camden and costs £8/6

40th Anniversary.
Several old Clubs have now commented on the 40th, the Chapel proposal, and considered the Club future.
We now have the thoughts of our RMO, Andy and I've added a short contribution of my own.
A missive from Steve Branagan in response to the earlier comments and Bob's original email plus Bill and Jop's comments - do read and add to the debate!
I've also included a fragment of Medwin Hughes request for funds - the whole scanned document is rather large to load on the website. If anyone would like a copy I can email it.

Chapel Project - from Bob Fonow
Dear Returners,
The 16 Club has been existence for nearly 40 years. It stays part of College life beyond any vice chancellor, professors,and soon, regrettably but inevitably, longer than the longest members. In my view, our money, and Peter's money, should be dedicated to preserving the longest standing values of the College, and those values are most resident in the Chapel. It needs our help. It is truly the center of the campus, and the heart of the Old Building.
I propose that the care, maintenance and future development of the Chapel, as a symbol of the ethical foundation of a degree from St. David's University College, the University of Wales, Lampeter, and Trinity St. David's, become the special focus and unifying project of the 16 Club Returners.
This doesn't detract from ideas of a fund to assist distressed members, or any other activities. But it does have a message of longevity and purpose that goes beyond a particular interest.
The Chapel can serve all religious constituencies, and be a unifying symbol of the Lampeter community. I can say this as a person who is baptized Roman Catholic, practiced as an Anglican at Lampeter, and later added Quakerism to my practices for its advocacy of peace. It is also a place or repose and meditation for those without affiliation, or for those without a particular belief.
The sums required are manageable for a group of our size without any fuss or recognition beyond being 16 Club members. We can discuss and agree on appropriate annual contributions, but they can be voluntary and anonymous over the years, and geared to individual circumstances.
I hope this leads to a fruitful discussion and an honorable legacy.
I'd be very grateful if this message could be given wide distribution.

The 40th year of the 16 Club
The 40th year of the 16 Club will be celebrated next year on the 4th June 2011. Having spoken to the college it has been possible for us to book the Old Hall for dinner and the newly refurbished Founders Library (which looks superb and very different) for our AGM. The day will encompass an activity during the day followed by the AGM and dinner.
Costs are currently being worked out and by the end of the year I will be asking for deposits to confirm attendance. I will be working out a menu with the college and I have already spoken to them about the high standards we expect. I hope this will be a superb occasion and I urge you to put it in the diary straight away.
If you would like to provisionally say you may attend then please email me on A_D_Holdsworth@hotmail.com and I can start to get numbers together and then I will be asking for deposits later in the year once menus are organised, costs confirmed. The meal will be heavily subsidised by the Returning Members, using some of the money Peter left us to contribute to the costs to make this one of the best dinners held in Lampeter for many years with the best company any Gentleman could ask for.
I hope it will be an day to never forget.

Returners' Spring Luncheon, 2010.
The 2010 Banbury Spring Luncheon has been arranged for Saturday, 27th March 2010.
The meal will be approx. £20 a head plus any liquid refreshment required by the Gentlemen of the Club.

Returners' Lampeter Dinner, 2009.
Andy writes: Gaudeamus all
Returners will be held on Saturday 23rd May in Lampeter. The college sixteen are working hard to put an activity together for the Saturday, currently the idea is possibly clay pigeon shooting. The idea is we do not have a bbq like the last few years.
Could you please let Andy know if you wish to attend by sending an email or calling 07818406692. I will need to know whether you will be able to make it to Lampeter for the day's activities (it may be possible to join us at the venue when we know where it is) or just for the evening meal.
I will work out costs and times closer to the event but need a good idea of numbers as soon as possible.
I must also apologise for not producing a Connexion yet this year. I will work on this in due course.

Death of past Club Chairman and RMO

Returners' Weekend in Lampeter

As term ends on March 6th, the 7th is no longer practical and the dinner will now be held on Saturday, May 24th 2008.

We held a very successful Returners Dinner last Saturday. Messrs Eghan and Walker dropped out on the day and Tom Billinge could not come because he was contracted to a Thai boxing bout - which he won ! We enjoyed classic English fare washed down with a very acceptable house red wine. We had drinks in the restaurant bar before hand (Suffolk ale) and my two companions Andrew Holdsworth and Maxwell Heinrich had started the evening at the Nag's Head where I joined them after an overlong journey from Ealing. So three returners shared a convivial evening and retired home early refreshed by each others company.

Brian Williams (March 2007)
A short note - I have just learnt that Dr. Brian Williams, Lampeter SU president 74-75 and Professor of Community Justice and Victimology, De Montfort University, died in an accident on 17th March.
Although not a Sixteen I'm sure many older Clubs will remember Brian as a great character in Coll.
